Abi Clarke
In the past
i.e. in the early 2020s comedians might have had the opportunity to perform for
years in the UK before being invited on an audience on TV and selling out arena
tours. It's not straightforward at the moment. Comedy is an art form that has
been art that can remain performed in front of an audience of live. However, we
won't have arena shows anytime coming. One Bristol comedian, however, has found
an international audience during lockdowns through social media. Finding internet
fame is not something Abi Clarke wanted to achieve. Abi, 24 lives in Henbury.
She began making videos online "to establish a community of people who
enjoy my standup comedy." "I was doing a lot of gigs throughout the
region of Devon to guys older than 50 who were not so keen on my Love Island,
Sims and Twilight references. I then went online with the intention to meet
other young women who could relate to me." Abi has since performed at
Lakota Gardens, as locks have eased but she still posts her videos on
Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok (where she's recently surpassed 500,000
followers), finding inspiration from sources such as her job at a cafe, a
conversation with a stranger, or the girls' group chat. She also writes all of
her ideas down on her smartphone.
