Moss, born 13 February 1977, is an ex-American player in the field of football.
He was a player with the Minnesota Vikings (Oak Raiders), New England Patriots
(New England Patriots), Tennessee Titans (Tennessee Titans) and the San
Francisco 49ers in the National Football League. Moss is widely considered to
be Jerry Rice's top wide receiver. He holds the NFL single season touchdown
reception record of 23 in 2007, the NFL rookie single-season touchdown record
(17 in 1998), and is second on the NFL's all-time regular-season touchdown
reception list with 156. Moss was well known for his skill in securing catch
contests and the term "mossed" has become part of the football
vernacular. Following his professional football career Moss began his career as
a studio analyst with ESPN for their Sunday NFL Countdown program and Monday
Night Countdown. Moss was born in Rand, West Virginia. He attended DuPont High
School, one of two schools which later amalgamated into Riverside High School,
where Moss excelled at football, basketball and baseball as well as track.
Randy was also a part of the school's debate club. Moss was a DuPont Panthers'
football player who led them to two consecutive state championshipsin 1992 and
1993. Moss was a star wide receiver. He also played free safety and returned
punts. He was awarded the Kennedy Award in 1994 as West Virginia's Football
Player of the Year. Parade magazine named him to their All-American high school
football team in 1995 and in 2009 He was named as one of the top 50 high school
football players ever.
